Michael Simone is a Principal at Totem Capital and brings over 15 years of experience in the commercial Real Estate sector to the firm. Most recently, Michael held the position of Director of Leasing and Development at SmartCentres REIT (TSX: SRU.UN) where he was part of the senior leadership team executing a JV partnership for the conversion of 100 acres of existing shopping centre lands into a new master planned development with over 20 million square feet of mixed use density, a 9 acre park and a new TTC subway station. With his specialization in Class A Office, Retail and Mixed Use, he was responsible for the 100% lease up, development and construction of both the KPMG Tower (resulting in the project being named 2016 NAIOP Office Development of the Year) and the PwC-YMCA Tower – the first two Class A office towers in the SmartCentres REIT portfolio. Prior to Michael launching the SmartCentres REIT office platform, he was responsible for leasing and managing a portfolio of regional retail assets comprised of over 7 million square feet of development. Michael now oversees all real-estate related functions at Totem Capital with a focus on managing existing interests and growing the firm’s real estate platform.
Born and raised in Toronto, Michael cares deeply about his community and gives back through his philanthropic work with the Toronto Foundation’s Vision 2020 initiative. He is passionate about music, specifically Pearl Jam, international travel and basketball. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Toronto in Basic Medical Sciences and an MBA from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.
